Every year, five very lucky and well prepared individuals are chosen by media tech teacher, Mr. Fuentes, to represent C.C.Winn High School and be a part of the Frontera Film Festival Pub Tour team! The name was FOMO in the South Fest and students were encouraged to dress in western wear. This year, the location that was decided to tour was the city of none other than Laredo, Texas! These individuals prepared a presentation and special dance to give and present to each and every school they attended which consisted of: Nixon, Laredo United, Laredo South, LBJ, and the performing arts school in Laredo. This was all done to promote the film festival in Eagle Pass and to basically encourage all of these schools to participate and submit into our festival. We socialized, laugh, promoted our fest, and also ate pretty good food along the way. We also introduced a presentation on how to use an application called Aurasma, which is when a normal still image becomes a trigger and it comes to life. It was a three day overnight trip and despite of the many types of audience types we got and some bumps along the road, in the end we came out victorius and even networked with other schools for potential collaborations on projects in the future. It was truly a highlight of everyones year!
Its been 3 weeks since our season started and we're currently 3-1. On the first week we defeated Carrizo 69-44, but then lost to Del Rio 60-73. The following week we beat Crystal City 72-28 & this past Monday we beat Crystal City once again 54-52 on their court. We don't play again until next Thursday as we enter the Poteet Tournament for the 8th consecutive year. The goal is to bring back the 1st place trophy and if that doesn't go as planned then all we can do is learn from it and get better. This years team consists of 10 seniors, 3 juniors, and is coached by Coach Tovar and Coach Sanchez.
So Maverick Nation, join us as we try our best to end the drought and clinch a spot into playoffs! #WhyNot - JC The Class of 2018 laid their High School Volleyball career to rest against the McCollum Cowgirls. After being so close to finally clinching a playoff spot they came up short, but nevertheless they never lost their Maverick spirit. The class of 2018 would like to recognize head coach Corina Benavides and assistant coach Erika Rodriguez for their support through the past four years. They never failed to lift the spirits of an adversity struck team, and somehow they managed not only to make a difference when it came to education but they left an imprint on the hearts of the team. As this year's Senior Class moves onto the next chapter in their lives, they will always hold a special place in their heart for the Maverick Volleyball program. We wish the class of 2018 the best of luck!
Go Mavericks! It's crazy to think that the first semester of senior year is almost coming to an end. I remember when I was an underclassmen and upperclassmen SWORE that high school flies by in the blink of an eye and they truly weren't wrong at all. Now that I'm a senior myself I can't help but to tear up every time I think about the fact that I have already lived through my last football and pep rally season ever. Aside from all the super fun events like graduation pictures and the senior walk, schoolwork is still crucial, especially right now with everyone stressing over improving their GPA's. These are all bittersweet moments that I'll forever cherish for the rest of my life but one thing in particular: college applications, UGH! The time has come when we have to transition from being in high school to starting to plan out what exactly we're going to do for the rest of our lives. It's a scary thought to dwell about when you think about it. Senioritis is kicking in at an all time high since everyone just wants to get senior year over with, get accepted into their dream universities, and put on their cap and gowns on graduation day. In less than a month or so everyone will be enjoying their last winter break and the spring semester will arrive and prom and grad party season will be approaching! I always tell seniors to keep one thing in mind in the midst of all the chaos of senior year: "These are the greatest moments we'll never be able to live again so enjoy them to the fullest and make endless memories."
