Seminole Canyon Hiking Trip.Last October, the Practicum class went on a hiking trip in Seminole Canyon.
"Speaking for the entire class, I'd say this was a tremendous experience. 8 miles on foot in the heated sun was dreadful, but the view upon the horizons and the picturesque rivers and canyons were worth the experience. " |
Battle of the Border
MAVS VS. EAGLES GAMESPIRIT WEEK |
The green field, the smell of team spirit brims the air as the crowd roars, the rivalry between two sides of the city, two high schools, two teams. This is the game of the season everyone impatiently yearns for in hopes that we make history to finally win. The streak of 10-0 will finally meet its defeat and we shall be victorious. The separation of orange and the black and sliver corresponds to each side of the football field. With the whimsical music of from the bands and the optimistic spirit from its cheerleaders, increasing the hopes and anticipation on its team and supporters. I've never seen the bleachers filled with such an ample amount of people, especially for a team that after more than a decade has never lost hope on its team.
I sat under the bleachers throughout the game, i was helping out in face painting for Drama Club so obviously by the time we were done people had already taken up all the spaces. I sat underneath the bleachers in anticipation that maybe this would be the game that would overcome the decade of constant defeat by the Eagles, and as a senior I knew this would be my last Battle of The Border game, so you can imagine how important this was for me, and anyone who's in the Class of 2017 or everyone really. Unfortunately the score was 12-20 so it is clear who won, but I believe we won, truly. The same day after school I saw students from both schools post about their pep rallies on social media, I came to the realization after the game that the ones who truly won was us. It is clear that every year the Eagles win, but what I notice is that their constant winning seems impossible, I mean the Mavericks sure work harder every year to make sure this would be the year. Let's be real the streak 11-0 sure seems pretty unrealistic, don't you think? I've noticed a slight difference from both schools. Okay, "slight" would be an understatement, I mean HUUUGE. For instance, the pep rallies. It is a fact that C.C Winn throws the best pep rallies compared to the Eagles, and its not because of the glow sticks and the Battle of the Classes, but the kind of the spirit and ambition we thrive that makes these pep rallies so special. This is because, unlike the Eagles who's only kind of motivation is kicking cardboard boxes like a bunch of 5-year old ninnies, our school focused on the perseverance of team effort and having fun without any kind of put-down to the other school. Yes the Eagles may have won this round, but hey, I mean we sure know how to have fun. Your Dear Beloved Blogger, Maria Sanchez. PEP-RALLY |
